I love playing and working on my acoustic guitars. I often find myself playing my acoustic guitars more than my electric guitars. Acoustic guitars can be extremely rewarding to play and they can be uncomfortable to play. It is paramount that you properly setup and maintain your acoustic guitar. In many ways, acoustic guitar repair is a art form just like acoustic guitar building. There are an infinite amount of things that can go wrong on your acoustic guitar. That is why it is important to have proper instruction before you start to work on your guitar.
Since acoustic guitars are made out of thin pieces of wood glued together in many different directions, it is only natural that acoustic guitars tend to be more fragile and needy in a lot of ways than solid body electric guitars. Acoustic guitars also tend to be more susceptible to the surrounding environment and weather conditions than electric guitars. It is for these reasons that acoustic guitar maintenance and acoustic guitar repair is so important.
The structure of an acoustic guitar is designed to self-destruct. Think about it. The strings are pulling the neck toward the body and the top of the guitar upward. The back and sides of the guitar are glued in place, anchored to the neck, and just trying to hold everything together. All of these factors contribute to the way your acoustic guitar plays and sounds. Loose glue joints will not only harm the integrity of your guitar, but they will also hurt the tone of the instrument. Warped or bent wood will make the playability of your guitar decrease drastically.
There are many different reasons why your acoustic sounds and feels the way it does. My goal is to provide proper and easy to follow instructions for you to setup and maintain your acoustic guitar, so that it plays and sounds great. I will go through instructions for adjusting your acoustic guitar truss rod and setting the string action. I will also discuss topics like temperature and humidity control for acoustic guitars.
