This way you can learn exactly what you want when you want to. If you are a beginner guitarist, you can start with the basic lessons in the beginner section and learn some songs in the songs section.

More experienced guitar players can learn new techniques in the advanced lesson section and pick up some tips in the guitar style section as well. There’s something for every guitarist from beginner to advanced.

No matter if you are on the main core learning system page, a course page, or a lesson page, you will always have access to the sidebar where you can pick from:

  • Your last lessons
  • Guitar instructors

  • Guitar Toolbox
  • Guitar News

This is a great navigation bar to easily get to anywhere in the platform at all times.

Guitar Tricks Courses

Each of the four courses mentioned above are learning tracks that guide you step-by-step through certain skill levels of playing. Each course is a separate guitar journey that is made up of chapters with individual lessons.

As you finish one lesson, your progress bar shows your new accomplishment and moves you onto the next lesson. Each of chapter teaches you different techniques and helps you improve your skills in different ways. For example, this is the first chapter for beginner lessons on guitar fundamentals:

  • Chapter 1: Get To Know Your Guitar
  • Chapter 2: Lets Learn To Play!
  • Chapter 3: How To Play Simple Melodies
  • Chapter 4: Your 5-Chord Power-Pack!
  • Chapter 5: Must-Know Basic Open Chords
  • Chapter 6: How Chords Work Together To Make Songs
  • Chapter 7: Intro To Timing And Rhythm

Each of these chapters have numerous lessons in each to explain the techniques and teach you the guitar skills involved in each. As you complete each lesson in the course, your progress bar will fill up to show you how much of the course you’ve completed and when you are ready to move onto the next more challenging lessons.

Guitar Tricks Lesson Format

The GuitarTricks lesson format is easy to follow and super easy to navigate. Each lesson screen is split between the video guitar lesson, description, tutorial progress, and tutorial content.

Guitar Video Lessons

The guitar video lessons are front and center. The HD video player allows you to view multiple camera angles, close-ups on the fretboard, and even tabs/chord charts at the same time. This is great for learning guitar techniques. It’s also really helpful because you can pause, stop, and rewind the video at any point.

Conveniently located under the video lesson player are previous and next lesson buttons, so you can easily flip through the lessons as you go through the course.

Lesson Description

The lesson description section simply lists what the current lesson covers along with the guitar instructor, lesson difficultly level, and style being taught.

Tutorial Progress

The progress report shows you how much of the lesson you’ve completed as well as a couple cool features like a way to mark the lesson as you favorite, so you can come back to it. You can also download the lesson or use an online guitar tuner.

Tutorial Content

The content section is simply a table of contents for the chapter you are in. This is a nice feature because you can skips to other chapters without having to flip through multiple lessons or go back to the main screen all the time.

I really like the way the lessons are laid out. They are really easy to use. You aren’t constantly battling with trying to find your way around. Instead, you are just focused on learning guitar and having fun.

Beginner Lessons

The Guitar Tricks beginner lessons course makes it easy for anyone to pick up a guitar and learn how to play. It doesn’t matter when you are a novice guitar player or someone who’s never touched a guitar, their lessons will walk you step-by-step through the fundamentals and guitar basics quickly. You’ll be playing songs in no time.

The beginner course starts with two levels of fundamentals and guitar playing basics. Each of these levels have multiple chapters and lessons to teach you how to start playing guitar. After you’ve mastered the basics, you can move on to the style lessons: blues, country, and rock guitar.

Each style level also has multiple chapters and lessons to teach you all of the basics and techniques of that style. This is where the fun begins because you will actually start learning how to rock with songs!

Also, there are several additional tutorials for learning how to make songs, practice for beginners, and how to tune and maintain your guitar.

Once you’ve made it all the way through the beginner lessons, it’s time to head over to the more challenging advanced lessons to really learn how to rock.

Advanced Lessons

The Guitar Tricks experienced lessons are setup similarly to the beginner lessons. There are two fundamental levels that teach you the mechanics and techniques of playing at a more advanced level. Each of these levels are filled with chapters and individual lessons to walk you through each concept step-by-step.

After you finish the fundamental levels, you can move on to the style levels: blues, country, rock. These levels will teach you more challenging guitar styles and songs. You’ll learn how to solo, improvise, and straight up rock out.

Like the beginner course, there are also a few added tutorials for additional styles, techniques, practice, chords and scales, artist studies, and gear and tone. All of these additional tutorials are great and really help you understand playing, your guitar, and tone.

Trust me when I say, they know what they are talking about. Many of the instructors are well known musicians and even more famous for their teaching. They truly have some of the best teachers on their platform.

What’s really cool is that you can click on an instructor and see all of the lessons that they’ve made. I really like this feature because sometimes you just enjoy learning from a specific instructor, so now you can get a list of all of his or her lessons, styles, and courses.

GuitarTricks App Review

The GuitarTricks app is available on both iOS and Android phones. The free version of the app offers a limited selection of lessons and styles that you can learn from. It’s similar to the free version of the GuitarTricks website.

The paid version has all of the features and courses that the website does. It really cool and worth having on your phone. That way you can learn a song or something on the fly without having to be in front of your computer all the time.

The app itself is well laid out and easy to navigate. I’d highly recommend downloading it on your phone. You won’t regret it.

Guitar Tricks only costs $19.95 per month. You can also pay annually with a single payment of $179.99. That will save you about $60 over the course of the year.

You might be thinking that $20 is a little expensive for lessons, but it’s actually really cheap. Think about taking lessons at your local music store. It will probably cost about $30-$50 per half hour lesson depending on where you live in the country.

That’s $120-$200 per month and you can only learn from the lessons while you are at the music store. With your GuitarTricks subscription, you can tune into videos any time you want—day or night. Just log on and start your videos where you left off.

Plus, you have the added benefit of being to watch the same video multiple times and stop and rewind anything you have a question on. It’s a WAY better deal than taking regular lessons.
